Auditions for the position of Concertmaster

ANNUAL ACTIVITY AND CONTRACT CONDITIONS (reference only)

  • 38-40 weeks work over 12 months (negotiable)
  • Full-time professional contract with UACh
  • Additional benefits as UACh employee
  • Contract starting April 1 2012 (negotiable)

MONTHLY SALARY

Aprox. CL$1.240.000 brutto (aprox. US$ 2.400)

REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree in Music Performance OR regular or private studies comparable to a full Bachelor's Degree OR high level professional orchestral experience.
  • Training and/or experience and/or knowledge in historical performance practice will be considered favorably. For the position of concertmaster it is highly desirable.

APPLICATIONS WILL BE REVIEWED AND ANSWERED AS THEY ARE RECEIVED. Selected candidates will be invited to take parte in the auditions in one of the following formats: 

A. LIVE AUDITIONS

Auditions will take place on Monday January 30 2012 in Valdivia, Chile.

The University reserves the right to modify the dates and locations or add new ones.

B. VIDEO AUDITIONS

  • Candidates with official residence outside of Chile, who at the time of the auditions are not in Chile, may audition by sending a video recording with the entire requested repertoire, recorded in no more than three sections (i.e., no more than two cuts) with a fixed frontal camera.
  • It is in the candidate's best interest to send a recording of the highest sound and image quality.
  • The video must be uploaded to our dropbox (click on the link).
  • Videos must be received at the latest 3 days before the date of the audition.

Priority will be given to candidates auditioning live.

TRIAL APPEARANCE

Following the auditions, one or more candidates will be invited to play with the Orchestra as guest concertmaster in one or more programs, dates to be agreed upon. Invited candidate(s) will be paid as guest musicians; in addition, the Orchestra will cover local hotel, per diem and national travel expenses. Each candidate will be responsible for his/her international travel expenses. The audition committee will make a decision once the trial appearances are completed.

REPERTOIRE

1. First movement without cadenza of Mozart's concertos N°4 (D major) or N°5 (A major).

2. First movement with cadenza (if there is one) of a major concerto from the standard repertoire written after 1800, excluding Bruch and Mendelssohn. Suggested works: Beethoven, Brahms, Sibelius, Tchaikovsky.

3. Slow movement of any of the works above.

4. One movement of a baroque piece (solo or orchestral).

5. The following orchestral excerpts:

  • Brahms | Symphony N°1 | 2nd movement: b. 1-38
